Painting in the Emerald City

I intended to start this blog many months ago, but lost track of my free time (procrastination is kind of my thing) and now it's 2010 at the end of my winter vacation, and I suppose it's as good a time as any to start this thing.
My intend to use this blog in order to tell my friends and family (and anyone else) what it is I'm up to and doing with my life. I'm not sure how successful it will be, but hopefully I will remember to update it regularly. Anyway, here goes the first post!

So I'm currently sitting on the couch in my dad's downtown apartment in Seattle, listening to music that sounds like Passion Pit on pandora radio, and I feel optimistic and creative. I get in this mood every once in a while when listening to music, and I try to use it to start some project, be it drawing or painting, or writing, or something else. Normally I only start a project when in this mood, but sometimes I'm able to actually use it to my advantage and get something done. One of those times happened the other day.
When I got to Seattle, I decided I would want to start painting again for some reason, and so I found this really cheap art kit at Urban Outfitters for $15 that came with a canvas, easel, paints, brushes, and a pallet. Seeing as this amount of supplies would coast a whole lot more anywhere else, I jumped on the deal. When I got home, though, I really didn't feel like painting (big surprise). So instead of wasting my new art supplies and starting a painting without finishing, I decided to save it until I was ready to use it. Flash forward two weeks, and here I was in a creative mood again. I was in the apartment alone, as Marie already left for New Hampshire, and my dad was out for some reason. Pandora at the ready, I stared at the blank canvas and thought about what I wanted to paint. I had had a conversation the week before with Marie about what I was going to paint, and she suggested I paint her. I was going to do it while she was here, and use her as a live model. Now I couldn't do it, seeing as she was now thousands of miles away. So, I found a picture of her on facebook and began planing where I would paint.
I think the painting came out well, and I'm glad I did it. It always makes me feel good to start a project like this, and it makes me realize how much I miss art in general. I've said it before, but I really think I want to take some art classes at UNH. It's hard to fit one into my schedule, but I think it would be a lot of fun.

Before I go, I'll tell you a little bit about my plans for the month and whatnot. I leave Seattle tomorrow (Jan. 13th), and I'll be home for 10 days. In those days, I hope to meet up with some friends, say hello to family, and possibly visit past teachers at PRHS. Notice how I say "hope". If I'm able to do most of those, great, but I'll probably spend most of that time doing a whole lot of nothing. Anyway, I hope anyone reading this is doing well!
